Actually left in 97 and came back in 2000, there are still quite a few folks from those days left on active duty, I remember the softball & flag football teams, Speedy Gozaimasu, when the snack bar was open 24 hours, and the big earthquake in January '95.

ref Thomas 'Grizz' Ochsner's bus ride story. I, along with
probably many others, had the same 'tour'. He keeps the record
though, as My 'tour' fortunately lasted only four or five hours after a rollcall.

I've been reading the guestbook and all sorts of things pop into my head so in to particular order: The Fishbowl...Mids... Lt. Langer...Mod-19s Mod-28s, Fritter... Mig-25, KAL... rollcalls... dew runs... after swings bowling... golf championship in 81... freezing in pay lines... Electron, Richarg Bong, Static Club... Rocker club... Chits... MPCs... Elvis in the ops snack bar... machi boots... AP Alley... Stand Bar, Cowboy... Silverwings, Rotary... Wajima, Takamiyama & Chinofuji... 360-1 yen... R-area... trailer housing... b-battery... Mole hole... fisherman's shack... base beach... golfing in the snow on Christmas eve... and on and on....
Glad I found the site and am continuing to look it over... Wayne are you out there? my e-mail is elpa@satx.rr.com

David had a blurb about the upcoming 6922nd Det 4 reunion in either the VFW, DAV or American Legion magazine. Since we are all in the process of looking for the people who served in Security Service units, I encouraged him to "go public" and sign our Guest Book. Welcome aboard, David! If even one person sees your posting and contacts you, we have served our purpose: reuniting old friends.

I served in the group that did analysis on the Soviet Long Range Air Force. Worked with Sgt Eller and Sgt Gil Gorman. Particularly enjoyed working with Gil on a cryptoanalysis problem for the last year that I was there. I vaguely remember the lieutenant that lead the group was Bartlett.
Spent far too much time in the "Alley" with my friends Russ Butcher, Tom McConnell (who I have not ever been able to locate in Long Beach, Ca) and Terence McGee.
It was a memorable experience that I've never forgotten about.

Arrived at Misawa just before the Det closed and had to rely on my subsequent education courtesy of AP Alley, Stand Bar, Shades, etc. Trick 3 was fantastic. TE Controllers (earlier names for S&Ws) were TSgt Waldo Cline, followed by SSgt Frank (Ding Dong) Dover. Started in old ops bldg (Mail room, Bx, dentist, chapel) and moved to Dog Battery (FLR-9 location) and subseqently back to expanded old ops bldg. Worked for Pancho Beltram in SE-05 as floorwalker, plotter, and reporter. Running mates were Lloyd "Red" Graham, Dick Hitchcock, Tim Goode, Red Opack, and others. Frequently hug all three mids (we were working 3-1,3-1,3-1, 3-3 during those years. Ops Officer was Golden L. Williams. Second tour enjoyed the Great Tuhoku Earthquake as NCOIC of the Command Post. Sent up temporary CP operations in the old Static Club. Had to break in. Col Harry Wilson authorized beer for lunch since we had no water. Formed the 56 Club in old dorm two. Col. Wilson was a frequent guest for lunch. Worked with John T. Heffernan. Third tour was behind closed doors working for the A5 NSA rep on special projects. Hugo James was the wizard of that circus. Other lies and war stories are too long and numerous.

Had a wonderful time in Misawa! Worked off base in the VFW for a while, during the time when Jessie Takamiama(?) was retiring from sumo wrestling. Bought all of my stereo equipment from Pony's, loved the Stagger Inn (my mug number was 47.1)- can't remember the owner's names, but I remember Yoshi! We hit a record accumulation of snow one year while I was there...285"! It was great! Was it the Companion bar that had fur covering the walls and ceiling? Best chicken in the world!

Hey all your guys and gals welcome to the "old Timers" session of Misawa Forever.

I was just promoted to E-4 and was made to read the NCO book and was forced to sign the committment book to swear and affirm that I would uphold the highest standards of the United States Air Force and the Non-Commissioned officers corps Wasn't that a blast???? Formerly I was an Airman First Class now I was to be made an NCO???????

WE WORKED A 4/1 4/1 4/4 SHIFT THAT WAS FOUR SWINGS
ONE DAY OFF FOUR MIDS ONE DAY OFF THEN FOUR DAYS AND

A FULL 96 HOURS OFF. We used a Mr. Tanaka tour service to see all of Japan .... From the Apple Blossom Festival to the Wakkanni Fishing tournaments to the Sapporo Ice festivals.

The curious thing was no matter what town we went to the ham and eggs on thick toast was our breakfast.

Twenty years after Misawa I was a government employee and was taking an r/r from Subic Bay Phillipines and ran into a MSG Jim something that i had been stationed with during my tour of duty in Misawa.

I loved my Tour of duty.... t was originally a 24 month unaccompanied tour then the AIR FORCE made it an 18 month tour and I had to only spend 20 months and got to go home early after 4 years 3 months 17 days and 45 minutes on active duty.

Hey somebody whom knew me write and say hello

goodbye for now

I'm in the Tennessee National Guard SFC (E-7) with 24 yrs service and one tour of duty in Iraq

I remember they wanted me to extend(and I wanted to extend) but told them I would if they put me back on flight as an S&W. Someone else needed their turn in the barrel running DOA. They told me No, if I extended I was going to continue running DOA...so I told them NO!!!! hummm gotta love the command mindset...we need your experience here at Misawa, but we want you to do this day job you don't want to do anymore and we won't keep your experience on flights where it will help train other analysts...hummmm go figure, so went back to HQ and worked for "BC". Would have crawled naked up AP alley to get back to Okinawa...oh, wait...I did that anyway I think?? Or, maybe that was at LinKou, the mind's a terrible thing to waste.

Happy 5th Anniversary to the Misawa Companion Site! Thanks Dutch for providing those poor, lost Misawans who are searching the internet for a way back to their misspent youth a portal to the Project! Your insight in seeing the need for a public site and your dedication to keeping it interesting and "safe" go way beyond any expectations. This will reflect in your APR!
