Comments:
What can I say. I turned 21 in Japan when I wanted to be free in
America. I was going to be drafted and there is nothing more that can get me upset is when someone tells me what to do. I did enjoy the friends and the times in Japan. Of course during those years of your life I would of enjoyed rolling down a Missouri hill in a 55 gallon barrel and being a free American. I am proud of being in Japan and serving my country but more proud of the 117 combat flight missions over SouthEast Asia during the VietNam War. What a
life for a very young and innocent kid from Missouri.

Comments:
I guess one would say that Misawa days were my salad days. I was not going to be hired by the AF,because I was too highly specialized. Well, I place my hands in prayer and the superintendent from the Irish schools took the hint (I"m half Irish with a name like Mulcahy) So, I arrived in Misawa and had not one,not two,but three jobs-Speech Pathologist,Special Education teacher (Mary LaLone was my aid),and audiologist plus I acted and directed plays, did TV and radio (dated the Navy guy,Reg,who ran the station) and did research. I had a love for the Orient as my Fifth grade teacher,Ms. Bersch of Central School in Ferguson,Missouri, taught me to be fascinated by that part of the world I loved the travel with my fellow teacher friends who loved adventure as much as I did. After two years, the Army tapped me and went to teach in Nurenburg. Now I am an old lady, who still tutors and does research, and have been blessed with an AF vet,John Thompson, whom I have a lot of fun with. Life has not been easy, but then nobody promised me a rose garden.

Looking for info on a Charles - Chuck - Wellner. He was in my 202 class at Goodfellow in 1966. I don't know exactly when he was at Misawa. He stayed in the Air Force and was a TSGT when he passed away in 1974. Just looking for anyone that may have known him or knows of the circumstances of his death. Chuck was very athletic and was on the football team while at Goodfellow. He has married a Mexican girl while there.

I myself was stationed at the 6918th Security Squadron in southern Japan from 1966 - 1968. Ended my enlistment at NSA.

Would appreciate any info. Thank you and take care.

I had heard of this site from several postings at the MyFamily Misawa website. I finally decided to check it out.

During my tour I worked in the computer room, aka DON. Most people on the floor didn't even know we existed, as is evidenced from comments I have read from others. My last few months there I was associated with the Misawa Masquers and found my love of acting.

First tour on the Hill in '59, with folks like Chuck Timmons, Bobby Boone, Jim Kowalski, Bill Webb, Don Atwood, Phil Miller, D.R. Barnes, Jerry Nelson & others, working in the 'squirrel cage'...
Still remember the Blizzard of January 1960, when the APs rounded everybody up from town and chased them back to base, where there was no transport running. We came close to freezing to death that night, huddled in the bus shelter at the main gate. Next morning, only guy that made it to work from Main Base was CWO Willey, who did it on skis!
Will be exploring this site more thoroughly as I get the chance...
Ahh, the after-swings bowling league, and the occasional earth tremors to help knock down the pins...

Lt. Colonel Sheppard was the C.O. and the trick chief was a Sgt. Mac-something.

I spent my first assignment from January until November, 1952 at Johnson AB near Tokyo, and then the whole 1st RSM was transferred to Misawa. I played on the softball and basketball teams, and have nothing but good memories of the officers and men during my stay there. I was shipped home in April, 1954.

Served on Misawa as part of a SAC TDY. Many fond memories, cold winter weather in a Quonset Hut not withstanding. I cherished a Zippo type lighter with the "Misawa Rocker Club" Logo, but sadly I have lost it. It is identical to the one shown in the Memorabila owned by "Doc" Dunn.

I know this seems like ancient history but I would love to replace this lighter and would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

My dad, Don McFarren, was stationed at the Misawa Air base with the USAF, I think in the early 60s. He was involved in a relationship and later married my mother, Yuriko Kohiruimaki, a native of Misawa. He NEVER talks about his experience in the Air Force and my mother's recollections are incomplete. If anyone can fill-in some details, our family would be amused, I'm certain (especially after seeing some of the photo albums), and grateful. Thank you! Christine Nagle ( pdxmcnagle@yahoo.com )

Fond memories of Misawa, My 1st overseas assignment. I was able to buy a old little Honda 350 Dream MC that had been passed down from previous S/Service troops, it wasn't much to look at, but that machine allowed me to explore Northern Honshu and get a real appreciation of the country and culture that couldn't be found in the Alley. I think that when I PCS'd Japan in 1966 for ShuLin Ku, I sold it for $25.

I also was TDY to DaNang for 120 days in Sept 65. Some interesting times and work there also.

I remember the "mid" roll calls in the alley, the bowling league, and intermural softball. Made some wonderful friends, but lost contact after discharge.
I Still rembember my initiation to position was to look for a can of DF bearings all over the compound on my 1st mid. My lead/mentor that I sit side-saddle was Vic ????? Seems he and a guy named Bill Morgan (not sure of this) had a band that played in a bar in the Alley. Would like to hear from some folks that may remember those times.
